GRANNY CAMP 4 Me
Do you have grandchildren, or children, or nieces/nephews, or kid friends ?
So ---- these young ones in your life ----
• Do you really love them and want them to really know it?
• Do they live far away and when you are together you really want to make it count?
• Do they live close and you would like to liven up the day-to-day with something really special and really different on occasion?
• Do you really want to build your relationships with them?
• Do you want them to think you are really fun to be with?
• Do you want them to really share your values?
If the answer to any of these questions is “Yes”, then invite them to “Granny Camp” ! And let me help! You don’t have to go to a cabin by a lake or pitch a tent in the woods. Although you can if you want. Nor do you have to build a camp fire or even sleep in a tent. Although you could. You can make “Granny Camp” happen anywhere. For me, most of the time it takes place in my home and most of the time it happens with my grandchildren.
It all started about 9 years ago. You see we have 8 grandchildren and when I have the opportunity to be with them, I want to do all of the above (bulleted) items and then some. So when we get the opportunity, I like to have the children here with me, usually one or two at a time so we can do fun activities together. After a few occasions of having the children here and doing a craft, or scrambling eggs or making a pie and things such as that, my daughter-in-law began calling these visits “Granny Camp”. She said that because, as she says--- we do fun activities, like at camp. Then when they moved to another state, the children started coming to our home for visits for 4 – 7 days at a time for “Granny Camp.” You see, we have 2 sons, each with 4 children, and now 4 of the grands live in our town and 4 live in another state. So when possible we have 2 at a time of the out-of-staters here for a week and for the ones who live here, we have them over as often as possible for “Granny Camp” fun activities. Sometimes it’s for an hour and sometimes for an overnight or two.
As we got into the “Granny Camp” thing I would find that for the out-of-staters, when they would be coming, I would plan many fun things to do with them and then we would get into the throws of “Granny Camp”, I would forget much of it. After a time or two of that frustration, I developed “The List”. And how they love “The List”! I’ll show you an example on my next post. When we’re planning for upcoming “Granny Camp” and I talk with a grand on the phone they always excitedly ask if I have “The List” ready yet. And I often ask if they have any requests for me to be sure to put on “The List”.
